SESAME SEEDS

We bring you the best from Ghana. Our carefully selected sources ensure that only premium grade seeds are shipped to our buyers worldwide.
Sesame Seeds
We source our Sesame seeds from local communities in Northern Ghana where we have established long term relationships with expert large and small-scale growers. We are yet to invest in Sesame seeds plantations and so we depend on third-party growers for all our supply. They produce the seeds under special arrangement for us, and are as dedicated to quality as we are. The seeds are selected, cleaned and exported worldwide.
Our multiple sourcing capabilities - from the network of farming communities enable us to offer our customers a year-round uninterrupted supply of high- quality ingredients and edible nuts and seeds.

Sesame seeds are tiny, oil-rich seeds that grow in pods on the Sesamum indicum plant. They are widely preferred for their distinct nutty flavor, and are consumed the world over as snacks or used as ingredients in confectioneries, savories, and other several food recipes. Sesame seeds have many potential health benefits and have been used in folk medicine for thousands of years. They may protect against heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis. They have even become trendy as a make-up and health product additive.

Sesame seeds are a good source of essential nutrients that are important for boosting the immune system. The tiny sesame seed is a powerhouse of organic minerals, especially calcium, zinc, copper, iron, vitamins B1 & B6, and vitamin E, and is also an alkaline food that contains dietary fiber and supports bone and general health. They offer the most nutritional value when the entire seed is used (un-hulled)

Applications
CULINARY

Due to health-driven trends, the sesame market has grown tremendously. The small sesame seed is used whole in cooking for its nutritional benefits and rich nutty flavor. Apart from sesame seeds being used for toppings on bakery products such as bread and buns and confectionery, sesame is also used in tahini, which is the main ingredient in hummus, a Mediterranean dip that has been around since the 13th century and is now popular in the health food world.

The sesame seed is being incorporated in new recipes all the time such as salad dressing and nutrition bars. Roasted Sesame dressing has become a popular condiment. Use in salads and ethnic cuisine is growing and the place of sesame seeds in vegetarian diets is also increasing.

Many traditional Asian dishes have sesame as an important ingredient, while sesame oil is used as a garnish in various eastern dishes and for frying Japanese dishes such as tempura. It also has the highest oil content among all oilseeds.
SOURCING
FFP’s competitive edge lies in the supply chain management of Sesame Seeds. We source our seeds from small-holder growers belonging to a network of farming communities in the Northern Regions of Ghana and we export them to the Middle East, Asia, and other countries. Large scale commercialization of sesame in Ghana is modest as compared to other West African origins, however, with our excellent organizational capabilities, we have already built a strong presence in the growing areas and have become a major player in the three Northern Regions of Ghana.
Together with our partners, we are actively coordinating the development of a commercialized sesame industry in the arid regions, based on sustainability and traceability. And our partners provide support throughout the season to maximize yield and secure product quality.
